Community Events
This list of community events and programs is not exhaustive and the events and programs will not become available until Bann Valley Museum is open.
Monthly events linked to exhibitions ie Victorian wash day, Victorian games and dressing in Victorian dress.
Archaeologist/Historian Club open to all from 9 years upwards Archaeology field trips, lectures, Factual Pre-history and history films and access to on-line archaeological reports and journals.
Archaeological Tours ie, Mount Sandel, Legananny Dolmen, Forts/causeway enclosures in and around Banbridge, Goward Portal and The Giant's Ring, the museum will provide its own transport.
Arts and crafts sessions: ie, design Neolithic Pottery, make shell or bead necklaces and model lithic tools. Participants can acquire inspiration for their designs from those on exhibition
Movies at the museum ie 'One million years BC', Night at the museum, 10,000 BC.
Ghostly Hallowe'en 27th October for all the family hours 2-6
Hallowe'en Fun 28th October.
Lectures themed to Exhibitions, Historical local figures, the Linen, Rope and Tobacco industries in Banbridge, Lurgan and other towns of interest.
Lecture lunches, ie the affects past climate and human agency has had on the fauna flora and landscape.
Santa's House 28th November 21st December visit Santa in his home and meet Mrs Clause every child receives a small gift.
Historical themed celebrations ie Easter past meet characters from differing periods and discover how Easter was celebrated in times past.
Museum's Annual Dinner for members and friends of Bann Valley Museum.
St Patrick's Day Excursion exploring early Christian sites at Nendrum on Strangford Lough exploring old church buildings, tour of museum and Dinner at museum bistro.
Whilst the majority of community groups contacted in the local area have a secured meeting place the community room located on the first floor will be available to any community group within the island of Ireland. Primarily this room will be free to use for all community purposes for the benefit of the community, but there will be a small charge to cover the cost of electricity, heating and other overheads. The community room will also be used by the community for paid and free arts and crafts sessions, lectures, oral history/story telling all provided by the museum staff, volunteers, members of community and community groups. The community building complex will also host two temporary exhibitions of independent artists work a year. Art works will come from all members of the local and regional community that want to display. This exhibition will be arranged and managed by a local independent artist, artists from BVM artists workshop.
